Trespa International B.V. is a leading innovator in the field of architectural materials, recognised internationally as a premier developer of high quality panels for exterior cladding, decorative façades, and scientific surface solutions.

In 2013 Trespa started with the construction of the EBC 2, a completely new production line for the production of decor rolls. EBC is an abbreviation for Electron Beam Curing. In this process several layers of coating are applied to the substrate paper and are impregnated. The final product (the decor) is laminated using foils before being winded up. The production process can be divided into the following main systems:

  • Unwinding of the foil and substrate
  • Coat treatment
  • Coating of substrate
  • Lamination of the substrate and foil
  • Rewinding of the decor (end product)

Van Daal engineering has been involved from the beginning of this project (process and P&ID design). We played key role in the decision process for the distribution of the various installations within the control system. The entire production line is controlled by a Siemens S7-400 system combined with PROFINET I/O. Due to the size and complexity of the installation, the control system has been divided over several CPUs (3 in total) with intercommunication.

After the first draft, Van Daal Engineering carried out the following tasks:

  • Classification of the installation in accordance with S88 structure.
  • Selection of the S7 hardware including the design of the PROFINET structure for a total of more than 300 PROFINET slaves.
  • Development of the application software conform the Trespa software standard.
  • Development of the entire safety software.
  • Development of the SCADA system in iFIX, for operator control and monitoring.
  • Testing and commissioning of the installations.
